In her groundbreaking book, Sister Citizen: Shame, Stereotypes, and Black Womxn in America, Melissa Harris-Perry historically captures the ways in which Black womxn are forced to navigate a virtually “crooked room” that perpetually shames them and shapes their experiences as citizens.
